Work at Tesla

Sean has worked on Battery Pack Architecture Design Projects and Energy Products Design and Manufacturing Roadmap.

 

Work includes:

  • Work on projects to reduce battery size, BOM cost reduction, and manufacturing cost reduction.

  • Design the battery sealing strategy.  Responsible for sourcing new material globally, conducting design of experiment in-house, leading product compliance validation test with cross-functional team, and developing manufacturing processes.

  • Develop advanced manufacturing technology for battery packs.

  • Manage and implement Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Automation (DFA) across 5 battery programs.

  • Lead Manufacturing Engineers and Design Engineers to develop equipment and processes for new battery programs.

  • Source equipment vendor globally and manage suppliers through the machine build.

One of the critical project at Tesla is to design the first battery automation manufacturing line at the Gigafactory.

The production line has been documented by Leonardo DiCaprio in the movie "Before the Flood".
